The Epithalamion is an ode penned by Edmund Spenser as a dedication to his bride Elizabeth Boyle. The ode was written on the day of their wedding and starts with invocating the Muses. This is followed by the happenings in the early hours before dawn on the wedding day to late at night. In other words, it narrates Spenser’s impatience before dawn as he waits for Boyle to wake up right up to the consummation of their marriage.

Interestingly, the Epithalamion has 24 stanzas representing each hour of the day and 365 lines for each day of the year.
