DAILY ROUTINE OF A TEACHER
I get up at 5:15 a.m. I could sleep till 6 but I like to get an early start on it. I do the morning routine and am out the door around 6. I commute 25 minutes to work. Head into school only 1 or two teachers are there. I head to my room plug in the computer and then hog the copier for a while. I get all materials ready for the day. Eat bagel while Im doing this all. Read emails 7:15 head out to chat with coworkers. We all are posted by our doors when school opens. Greet our kids as they shuffle in. When the initial rush is over I get back into my room and tell the kids what supplies they will need. “Grab paper and a pencil, notes today”. Take attendance 3 times since I guess being late is fashionable. Then class starts. Either lecture discussion small groups or solo work. Circulate answer a million questions. Ask a million more to get them thinking. Praise manage cajole . collect any work. Wash rinse repeat for 3 more class periods. Lunch with my co workers or solo if i need some quiet. ( we are an alternative school so we have 2 sessions 4 hours a piece otherwise I would be having lunch with kids who need support or tutoring.) Then back at it. This year they have decided we neeed a planning period. We havent had one for the past 3 years…mine is 4th hour. I check to see all the laptops are charging on their plugs. I erase the boards write tommorow bell work on the board and standards etc. Then i start grading or planning. I never have an empty inbox for more than two minutes if tge kids are here and during the day it stacks up. Read emails again. Call parents take care of a million little things. Go home around 4:30. Most days make dinner and go to bed. And feel guilty for not getting grading done. Which will now eat up my weekend. And thats it for the weekdays.
HOPE IT HELPS
