This list help us compare different chemical substances based on their reduction potential. A substance which is higher in electrochemical series( based on reduction potentials) will have higher reduction potential than any element below it in the series and hence it will have higher ability to get reduced i.e. to gain electron.
This series help us to determine
- which will act as a reducing agent.
- which will act as oxidizing agent.
- metal which is below hydrogen will give H2 gas.
