A magnet is a piece of iron containing atoms in it so as to attract other iron - containing items.

Properties of Magnets:

• Magnets attract other magnetic items like iron, cobalt, nickel, etc.
• The force of attraction in a magnet is greater at the poles.
• Like poles of magnets (2 magnets) repel against each other.
• Opposite poles of magnets (2 magnets) attract to each other.
• The magnet rotates freely when suspended by a thread and its South pole moves towards the North pole and vice versa.
