Editor,

A Lobo reader quoted a professor, "We need to use standards of universality and logic, otherwise, freedom of speech masks reality."

I disagree! Free speech is reality. Everyone has the right to express opinions without interference or censorship. To seek, receive, impart information and ideas through any media they choose. With that being said, freedom of speech is not without its limitations. With this freedom comes consequences which relate to: libel, slander, obscenity, sedition, incitement etc.

Attacking someone or destroying property because of what someone said, is not free speech, that's vandalism and battery. I'm a vet, regardless of what someone says, I fought for the right of all Americans to speak freely. “We the people” have a responsibility to the one speaking, listen and agree/disagree or don’t listen.

Deciding to alter or replace a person’s words is censorship. Censorship isn’t reality, it couldn’t be further from reality. We learn so much about a person through their use of words. Silencing any person because we don’t agree with their words is a step towards censoring other freedoms.

The best censorship that we as humans possess is our conscience. It’s not perfect, but that’s what makes us human, that’s what makes this country so great! So choose your words wisely, because when that bell is rung the responsibility will rest clearly on your shoulders, you can't take it back.

Explanation:

to editor,

freedom of a speech is the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship and it is often regarded as an integral concepts in modern liberal democracies.

but in todays time i think it is not like that what is written in constitution .they have right of speaking but they are being scared so much that they are not able to speak .and whatever they are speaking nothing is going to be changed with that and nothing our country is going to be listen.

but the true meaning of freedom of is that" political right to communicate with one's opinion and ideas".

it is recognised as human right under article 19 of Universal Declaration of Human Right UDHR and recognised in international human right law in the international Convent on civil and political rights. So r leaders have written so much in the constitution then why we can't express thoughts and emotion .

so,I request you to make people aware about these rights and laws and they can freely Express their feelings and emotions.
