My dear Abc,

Yesterday I received a letter from father that you are not keeping good health these days. I am much worried about you. It is very good that you work hard and are good in studies but nothing should be achieved at the cost of health. Good health is precious treasure which one should not lose.

You must take interest in school games and participate in the sports. Games will keep you fresh, smart and fit. If you can spare time, you must go for evening walk also. It is a light exercise and gives you energy to do more work. Always remember all work no play makes jack a dull boy. Sound mind lives in a sound body.

I hope you will surely try to improve your health, so that father and mother are not worried about you.

With lots of love.

Yours lovingly,

Subject: Balancing academics and sports in schools.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily newspaper, I would like to highlight the importance of games and sports in the life of students.

During school morning assembly and sports week, we often see students faint from exhaustion. This is due to the lack of exercise and physical activities in their lives which has resulted in physical weakness and lack of stamina. There seems to be a lack of awareness on the benefits of physical exercise or games and sports. The benefits of games and sports are far reaching and it is important for students to take part in games and sports. The benefits of games and sports are not limited to physical well-being. Games and sports teach us important values of life like discipline, teamwork and strength in unity. Games also instill in us obedience, respect, self-control, concentration, good manners and behaviours. Students must not lead a sedentary life by spending too much time in idleness and inactivity. Physical exercise increased the physical well being of a person and improve mental and academic performance. A lack of physical activity is known to increase the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and decrease their mental performance. Since games and sports have proven benefits, all schools and colleges in India are giving more emphasis on games and sports since the last few decades. Physical Training (PT) teachers are appointed to encourage the students to take part in games and sports and also to improve their skills.

Regular physical activity is known to have the following benefits:

1. Builds healthy bones and muscles.

2. Improves strength, stamina and endurance.

3. Reduces stress and anxiety.

4. Helps control weight and reduces the risk of obesity.

5. Keeps the circulatory and respiratory system strong.

6. Improves blood pressure and reduce cholesterol levels.

7. Reduces feelings of depression.

8. Promotes psychological well-being.

9. Boost our self confidence.

10. Improves our memory power.

11. Reduce the tendency to angry outbursts by development of self-control.

Games and sports has been shown to have positive effects upon learning, increased attentiveness in class and better grades. There is a strong correlation between high physical fitness scores and high academic scores. Therefore, all students must participate in games and sports for physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Yours sincerely,
