My dear son Piyush,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and that you are well settled now in the hostel and the new surroundings. This is the first time you are staying away from home and I took upon myself to write to you to tell that you are on your way to manhood and subsequently to independence in a few years time, provided of course, you realize your responsibilities and act in the best way to discharge the same.
Your prime concern should be your career and as you sow now, so will you reap in your future years. Youth is a gorgeous period as well as the most opportune time of life. It lies in your power to utilize this golden span of your life in the best possible manner and certainly I do not want you to become a book-worm and lose touch with the practical aspects of life.
At the same time one gets little time in one’s after-life to devote oneself fully to acquire theoretical knowledge. So divide your time well judiciously between your studies and other extra-curricular activities in which also it is a must that you should have your proper share of participation.
My dear son, I wish to point out to you that much of what in which we succeed in our adult life has its seeds well laid in our early youth. You are now studying to be an engineer and you should not only become a successful engineer but should grow in you a concrete vision of the contribution that can make to our nation when you become a full-fledged engineer in your particular branch of technology.
Real success lies in contributing welfare and benefits to our society and to our nation. Study and grow up with this particular aim and view and I am sure success will be yours. Whatever you do try to keep up a balanced life and you should always give special attention to your health, because health is not only wealth, but also it is also the very root from which our perpetual happiness springs.
With love from your dear mother, your brother and sister and from myself, I end this now wishing you all the best in life.
Yours loving father,
Mohan
