Dear Avinash,
I'm extremely sorry for damaging your bicycle, especially as you had received it as a birthday gift from your grandfather. Please pardon me for causing this damage.
This accident would not have happened, but for a bus which overtook a car from the wrong side and hit the cycle from the back. I was on the extreme left of the road and just could go no further due to the raised footpath. It was my good fortune that the overtaking vehicle could apply the brakes in the nick of time, or else I would be injured or dead.
I would request you to give me some time so that I can replace your bicycle with an identical one. I've already spoken to my mother in this regard and she has agreed.
