Answer:
A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area which is selected by the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization () as having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance, and is legally protected by international treaties. The sites are judged important to the collective interests of humanity.
To be selected, a World Heritage Site must be an already classified landmark, unique in some respect as a geographically and historically identifiable place having special cultural or physical significance (such as an ancient ruin or historical structure, building, city, complex, desert, forest, island, lake, monument, mountain, or ). It may signify a remarkable accomplishment of humanity, and serve as evidence of our intellectual history on the planet.
The sites are intended for practical conservation for posterity, which otherwise would be subject to risk from human or animal trespassing, unmonitored/uncontrolled/unrestricted access, or threat from local administrative negligence. Sites are demarcated by UNESCO as protected zones.
These sites are historically and culturally important, and are at risk of degradation or harm.
I sort of don’t understand why this is a question that needs asking. These places matter, so they need care to ensure future generations can enjoy and appreciate them, too.

Subject- protection of rivers
Sir,
I wish to draw your attention to the popular 'Rally for Rivers' movement which plans to clean up some of the rivers which are polluted. The Champaign led by the spiritual guru Aastha foundation aims at planning six crore saplings on the banks of the Yamuna river December last year.
At this point, I have a few doubts and concerns, which I plan to share with you. Does this project think about the sand mining Mafia, pollution, deforestation and river inter linking? the concept that they seem to be after is mainly planting trees. what about cleaning the rivers?
I feel that rivers may gain when trees help rain water to seep into soil but that requires planning control in usage of groundwater as well.
The rally for rivers seems to be going In the other direction by suggesting to plant fruit trees. it needs to broaden its vision and include other factors also. with such a narrow vision it may end up what it begins with.
Kindly share your views on this.
Yours sincerely
