Sub: Controlling the digging of bore wells
My name is Sai Kripa and I have been residing in Mylapore for the last 15 years. Off late in my place there has been extensive digging of borewells, most of them being dug without permission. Some of the residents here, especially multi-storeyed buildings have been digging new bore wells so as to ensure the regular flow of water to the residents. While these buildings already have the permitted borewells yet they have been illegally digging bore wells to accommodate the residents’ water needs. This has led to indiscriminate exploitation of groundwater that has gone unabated in.
Besides, many borewells are also being dug which are at times defunct. These defunct borewells dug by private players are akin to death traps for people, particularly gullible children who come out to play. These defunct borewell are left uncovered most times, and there are cases of ryots keeping them open, particularly during the rainy season, for the rain water to percolate. Although permission from the tahsildar concerned is essential to dig borewells and wells, most of the time this rule is breached by residents digging borewells
I kindly request you to attend to this matter at the earliest and take action against such unauthorised digging of borewells and bring in stringent measures to control. I trust that you would give this matter utmost importance and do the needful
