Sir,

Subject: Sale of contaminated food at street stalls

I am a regular reader of your newspaper and wish to use the columns of your esteemed daily to bring to the notice of the authorities and the public, the health hazards of contaminated food sold at street side stalls.

Street vendors sell all kinds of junk food: burgers, noodles, rolls, pav bhaji, cholla kulcha, samosa, etc. They also display cut fruit that looks colourful and attractive but acts as a magnet to attract flies and mosquitoes. The food is prepared in unhygienic conditions, the water used is impure, the oil and spices are sub-standard and the food is often stale. The food gets covered with dust, dirt and germs carried by insects. This causes many health hazards: gastroenteritis, jaundice, typhoid, etc. The municipal authorities need to regulate the issue of licence to such vendors. Strict and surprise checks need to be carried out to control contamination. The public needs to boycott stalls selling stale and unsafe food items.

I hope that the public and concerned authorities will take appropriate steps to check the sale of contaminated food at stalls.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours faithfully,

ABC
