SUB: The joy and importance of reading
Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I, *insert name*, would like to express my views on the joy and importance of reading.
With the advancement of technology and the introduction of addictive high-tech gadgets in modern society, many people, children and adults alike have forgotten the simple pleasures like the feel of the pages of an old book and the way they smell, and the worlds these books create in our minds. Ever since man has created writing as a form of communication, reading has been one of the greatest leisure activities of humankind. Not only is reading a joyous way to pass the time, but also many important cognitive and behavioral skills are developed through a habit of reading regularly. Reading improves language skills, sharpens the mind, hones communication skills and enables the reader to gain a better sense of comprehension. Readers face less stress, have greater mental stimulation, stronger analytical thinking skills and improved focus and concentration. There is so much knowledge to be gained just by reading. Reading newspapers, textbooks, novels and stories impart different kinds of knowledge and impact us differently.
I believe that people should take up the habit of reading regularly in order to head towards a better lifestyle. I would be obliged if this letter found space in your esteemed daily and hope it will be an eye opener to all the readers.
Thank you
Yours faithfully
