Sir,
I have conducted a surevy on teenagers regarding preferences shown by them for viewing particular T.V. programmes for past six months. I noted a few important points which, in my opinion, are universally applicable to all the children who fall between the age group of thirteen-nineteen.
A few special traits and tendencies that govern their minds are as following. The teenagers generaly select those T.V. programmes for viewing which are action-oriented or show a love angle. They also prefer adventurous stories, serials full of love, romance and separation, detective episodes, film related programmes, comics and some other programmes…..Cartoon films. They do not relish things of lofty and sublime nature. They enjoy funny, imaginative, frivolous and boisterous programmes whoch can make them jump and give thrill. Some serials which depict their own conflict with the society in the matter of love and marriage are also liked by the teenagers very much. They do not appreciate programmes that require intellectual involvement.
I think such tendencies are not good for their proper development. They are living in a world of imaginations and dreams. Theya are being carried away from the reality of the world. They should be inspired to watch different programmes connected with political, social, religious and economic issues. It is a must for the healthy and all-round development of the teenagers. The parents should check the children and try to dicuss with them and quench their queries. Something radical should be done to raise the level of teenager’s thinking. In fact, the parents can play a vital role in this matter.
