Subject: Bad condition of Government Schools
Sir:
I am writing to your good-self to express my deep anguish and
concern over the ever-continuing problem of poorly maintained Government
schools.
Yesterday I had to visit a Government run school as part of
my project. I was shocked to see the bad conditions prevailing there. First and
foremost there was no cleanliness anywhere. The school was littered with
wrappers, torn paper, leaves, rocks and dirt.
The stink from the washrooms was noxiously annoying. The plaster
on the walls required immediate repair. There was no furniture; students were
sitting on mats on the cold floor. The attendance was very thin. In most of the
classes there was no teacher. The few teachers that were present were doing
everything but teaching.
Through the medium of your esteemed daily I appeal to the
education ministry to look into the plight of Government run schools. A majority
of children in the rural parts of India study in these schools. How can we
prepare skilled manpower from such schools if their standard is so poor?
Kindly give my views enough space in your reputed daily.
Yours truly,
Anand Tahkur
