Sir,
Subject: The greatest setback to India, ill-health and hunger.
This is to draw your attention to the pressing issue of ill-health and hunger as the major setbacks to the progress of the country. Our country is stridently moving forward in terms global commerce and industry, Indian firms are becoming a force to reckon with and the populace as always, has been branching out into the farthest corners of the world as the best resource that the country has to offer. However, not to put a spanner in the works, we cannot hope to maintain this pace unless the entire country moves forward and keeps pace with the rest. Hunger, poverty, deprivation and appalling sanitary conditions have led to the untimely demise of a large chunk of the population. Truth be told, our rich are getting richer and our poor are getting poorer.
We need a robust and nourished population to actually keep up with the pace in which the country is moving forward. But the information that is being circulated by the government falls short of actual figures. There are people in this country who still lack the basic amenities in life, they do not have two square meals a day nor do they have the money to avail of proper healthcare. On the other hand, we see so much of money spent on inconsequential things like sprucing up the city for an international game and clearing away the beggars from the street. This cruelty and heartlessness towards its own population is what will eventually take down the country's dreams of becoming a global superpower.
It is my humble request that more attention will be paid to these issues in your column and people will contribute their viewpoints as well. It time for debate and action on the public front.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely
