Sub: Lavish wastage of electricity in our country and the government's turning blind eye to it.

Sir:

As a concerned citizen I am writing to you to express my shock over the people and Government's apathy and indifference to the problem of extravagant wastage of electricity in our energy-hungry country. Our country is the country of paradoxes. On one hand the government has launched 'Save Power Campaign'; on the other hand it is turning blind eye to the large scale wastage of electricity and fuel in the name of ostentatious weddings, parties, and other celebrations. The mansions, palaces that use electricity for show off, must not be allowed to do so. The equal distribution of electricity will enable the average Indian to have access to electricity. People who have lots of money, electricity rates should be higher for them; people who are poor, electricity should be provided to them at cheaper rates. To the very poor electricity should be free.

India is a country where a majority of people are poor. The Government must provide supply of basic essential things such as water, houses, electricity, etc. to people. The Government must set a limit to electricity consumption, especially for rich people who waste so much of energy on useless things.

The power shortage problem can be solved by government's intervention. I appeal to the concerned ministry through the esteemed columns of your daily to look into it. I also appeal to people to pay heed to wise consumption of electricity. Kindly give my views space in your esteemed daily. Thanking you.

Yours truly,

Mandeep Sinah
