Subject: Encouraging Indian Handicrafts

Sir,

I would like to draw the attention of people through the columns of your esteemed newspaper towards the ancient cultures and traditions of India being kept alive by handicrafts.

Every Indian state has an authentic handicraft to its name, which are unique in every way. But, not much encouragement and motivation is there for them. The craftspersons who have kept their heritage alive from so many generations are drowning in debt because of lack of money. Also, they have been given very less recognition and credit.

Millions of tourists visit India every year. Promoting Indian Handicrafts will help India in very many ways. The Indian Handicrafts and craftspersons will gain recognition and the industry will flourish, also the tourists will take a special handicraft as a souvenir back home, and the tourism industry will get a boom.

The government will have to take this step sometime and it's better late than never. Besides, it will boost the nation's economy by providing foreign exchange. It's high time the government promotes our country's native and authentic handicrafts and uplift the respective hardworking craftspersons.

Yours Truly

Ashmina
