As the economy worsens and more people across the nation find themselves without jobs and health coverage, demand for the health services provided by our nation's public-health infrastructure will continue to grow.

The funds allow for improving and expanding the services provided by community health centers, supporting critical safety-net programs like Medicaid and the food-stamp program.
Along with other essential programs supported by the funding in the bill, these services are vital to ensuring access to quality health care and other important public-health services during these difficult economic times.
It is critical that our community lets our elected leaders know we support the stimulus bill and its public-health funding provisions, which are critical to creating and retaining jobs in the public health sector and improving the health of all Americans.
An investment in public health is required, as it will take a healthy, productive work force to help usher our nation back to financial stability.
