Dear Father:

I hope this letter finds you in fine fettle. Well, I am writing to you to seek your permission to spend the winter break at John’s home in Kerala. I had already discussed with you about my plan of accompanying him to his place during the summer break. Dear father you know my admiration for the countryside. I have always cherished the wish to see the beauty of nature of Kerala.

Besides, he is one of my best friends. He has always insisted to come over to his place. He has often talked about the scenic beauty of the place where he lives. I also want to be fresh by being close to nature. He has promised me a night’s stay in his uncle’s houseboat in the backwaters. Dear father, kindly allow me to accompany him. Do send me rupees 5000/- also.

Give my warmest regards to dear mother and grandparents.

Yours affectionately,

Gibran

Dearest Dad,

I trust you and mummy are well. I also hope you have been going for your periodic check-ups.

Our summer vacation begins from the end of school hours on Friday, 12th May. I would request you to kindly allow me to visit Rahul's village in Chhapra district for about 15 days during the recess, the latter half will of course be spent with you and mummy at home in Patna. We propose to leave together on the evening of the 12th, subject to your giving me permission to do so.

Rahul's grandparents and uncles, with their families, live in the village. I wish to explore and enjoy rural life, see first hand how they rear their cattle and poultry, till their land and manage their daily lives, without facilities like healthcare, public transport etc of the kind we are so used to in cities. Now that both of us are good cyclists, we wish to go around the village and the neighbourhood in bicycles. I'm already pretty excited, never having earlier been to a village and, therefore, elementary things like wells and ponds, as sources of water, are catching my imagination like never before.

I shall be grateful if you will kindly let me have your permission per return, so that I am able to inform Rahul, who will in turn have to inform about our proposed visit to his parents and grandparents.

With love and regards,
Yours sincerely
Ramesh
