Gudi Padwa is the festival that is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month to mark the beginning of the Hindu new year. It is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra. The day is also celebrated as Ugadi, which is alsoknown as Yugadi, is mainly a new yearfestival in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.The day is also considered auspicious for ‘vaastu puja’ and opening new businesses . In Maharashtra, several community processions are also taken out.There are several stories also that are attached with this festival. On of them is “theory of creation”. They dress up in new clothes and enjoy family gatherings.On this day, women prepare sweets like ‘Puran Poli’ and ‘Shrikhand’ as also ‘Aambe daal’ and ‘Sunth Paak’. The day is also believed to be auspicious for ‘vaastu puja’ and opening new business establishments.
