Dear Rakhi
Hope you are doing well. How are
Appa, Amma and Rekha? Trust they are
in the best of health.
I want to tell you about how we
celebrated Pongal, the festival of
harvest in my native village this year. As
you know my grandparents are staying
there. So, we decided to go there for
the festival holidays.
lt was Ilovely to see the whole village
come to life. There were tons and tons
of sugarcane almost everywhere. Many
people were selling rangoli and other
items in association with the festival. It
was nice to watch the farmers bathe
their cows and bulls, and paint their
horns. Some of them even poured
turmeric water on their animals that
they appeared yellow in colour! My
grandmother made the Pongal in a
mud pot behind our house using a fire
hearth. It was a lovely sight to see the
Pongal overflowing from the pot.
In the evening, we went to the nearby
maidan to see some local
performances like folk dance, tiger
dance and so on. I was thrilled to bits
as I had seen all this only in the
television so far.
