The short story, "Amigo Brothers" by Piri Thomas, is about two boys who have grown up together and are such great friends that they feel like brothers. Set in New York City, but heavily influenced by Puerto Rican culture, the story describes the two boys’ love of boxing. For both, boxing has been a way to escape the negative influences that frequently beset young men in the inner city.

When the two boys, Antonio and Felix, learn that they are to compete against each other in the biggest fights of their lives, they are conflicted. They are such good friends and they don’t want to hurt each other. They decide to fight each other without “pulling any punches”, and it doesn’t destroy their friendship. Despite beating each other quite severely in the match, they walk away from the fight, arm-in-arm, as the great friends they always were.

          An  enthusiastic fight between Antonio  Cruz and Felix Vargas was scheduled to take place in Tompkins square park . The scheduled bouts began shortly afternoon  and the park had begun filling up even earlier because the fighters were much liked by the neighbourhood and each of them had their own loyal fans .When the fighters enter , the crowd explodes with roar .Antonio and Felix both bowed gracefully and then raised their arms in acknowledgement.                                                                                                        

          The  announcer makes announcement about the fighting and both of the fighters are two fine Puerto Ricans . Felix Vargas weighs 134 pounds  and Antonio Cruz weighs 133 pounds . The winner will represent the "Boy's Club "in the tournament of champions , the  Golden Gloves .The referee given instructions .In the first round both of them fought well and shown that  both of them are equally strong . The same happened in second round also They tried their level best to prove their ability .

          Then comes the third round , their fighting shows that both of them need to win and become champion . Neither of them fell in the canvas . They didn't hear the bell rings .They continued their fighting .At last the referee and the trainers came and separated the fighters .

          The announcer gets confused to name any one of them as the winner .Finally ,both of them declaring their strength of friendship and the final winner was their friendship .They proved that they are the real Amigo Brothers .
