Over the recent past the ministry of Environmental conservation has raised concerns over the pollution of the Ganges river that runs through and between the northern plains. The pollution has put to risk the lives of many Indians who dearly rely on the river water health wise.

The pollution is as a result of the following factors;

  • Sewage dumping - Sewage dumped into the river contains poisonous chemicals that have caused the living conditions of aquatic life unbearable and hence there is risk of losing lives of wildlife.
  • Religious Ash dumping - A recent survey has revealed that large sums of ashes are dumped into the river as part of the Hindu religion. This has greatly impacted on the rivers pollution.
