The first law of motion starts like this, every body continues in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless  compelled by a external unbalanced force.This law is also known as law of inertia. This law tells us that a body will be at rest or in uniform motion if it is not affected by an external unbalanced force.Example:A  car parked in a parking will not move unless an external force is applied.The external force can be of a truck or another  car.If a car is moving in a uniform speed and it is not affected by an external unbalanced force .It will keep on going for ever at the same speed.Here the external force can be friction.It can cause the body to come to rest.
