Domestic violence (also named domestic abuse or family violence) is violence or otherabuse by one person against another in a domestic setting, such as in marriage orcohabitation. It may be termed intimate partner violence when committed by a spouseor partner in an intimate relationship against the other spouse or partner, and can take place in heterosexual or same-sexrelationships, or between former spouses or partners. Domestic violence can also involve violence against children, parents, or the elderly. It takes a number of forms, includingphysical, verbal, emotional, economic,religious, reproductive, and sexual abuse, which can range from subtle, coercive forms to marital rape and to violent physical abuse such as choking, beating, female genital mutilation, and acid throwing that results indisfigurement or death. Domestic murders include stoning, bride burning, honor killings, and dowry deaths.

  • In domestic setting, if one person is violated by another person, this called domestic violence.
  • In India, biological relative can make suffer a person, this also a form of domestic violence. Typically, it occurs by a male member of family.
  • Several acts for domestic violence are made like Dowry Prohibition Act 1961, Protection of Woman from Domestic Violence Act to stop  emotional, physical, verbal, sexual and economic abuse.
