Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919 when troops of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer fired rifles into a peaceful crowd who came at Amritsar to participate a fair.

On 13th April, 1919, the people of Punjab gathered on the auspicious day of Baisakhi at Jallinwala Bagh near Golden temple in Amritsar. When they were protesting peacefully against the arrest of two prominent Congress leaders of Punjab. Genral Dyre ordered the British armed forces to open fire at the hundreds of innocent, unarmed men, women and children.
