Answer:
a) Sperm bank:
》place where semen or male gametes (sperm) are stored.
》they are sold to the those individuals in which the male partner has inability to inseminate the female or due to very low sperm counts in the ejaculation.
》semen collected from the healthy donors called as sperm donors and stored in the liquid nitrogen(-197°C) which preserved the solution for longer time.
》technique further used in female will be called as artificial insemination.
b)IVF ( In Vitro fertilization) :
》In Vitro fertilization followed by transfer of embryo or zygote into the female genital tract and is commonly called as 'test tube baby' programme.
》it's the fertilization outside the body in similar condition as that in the body followed by two methods:( any of the below could be used )
1) embryo transfer(ET)
- in this method, ovum from female and sperms from male are collected and are fertilized to form embryo under simulated condition in labs.
- The embryo ( with more than 8 blastomeres) into uterus (IUT - intra uterine transfer) , to complete its further development.
2) Zygote intra fallopian tube (ZIFT)
- in this also ovum and sperm are first fertilized outside.
- then the zygote or early embryos (with only 8 blastomeres) are transferred into fallopian tube of female.
》so IVF is generally used in which female can conceive but unable to provide suitable conditions for fertilization.
A sperm bank, semen bank or cryobank is a facility or enterprise which purchases, stores and sells human semen. The semen is produced and sold by men who are known as sperm donors. The sperm is purchased by or for women for the purpose of achieving a pregnancy or pregnancies other than by a sexual partner.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a type of assistive reproductive technology (ART). It involves retrieving eggs from a woman’s ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm. This fertilized egg is known as an embryo. The embryo can then be frozen for storage or transferred to a woman’s uterus.
