The characteristic features of "Amitosis" are as follows :-

• "Amitosis" is the usual process of cell division in Prokaryotic cells.

• In some cases, "Amitosis" takes place in the lower groups of Protozoans, Endosperm tissues of flowering plants and in the cells of the foetal membranes of vertebrates.

• "Amitosis" is commonly found in certain thallophyta.

• In "Amitosis", the nucleus elongates, becomes squeezed and finally, gets divided into two nuclei.

• In "Amitosis", the division of the nucleus takes place without the involvement of any recognisable chromosomes.

• "Amitosis" is found in bacteria.

• A bacterial cell divides once every minute.
