GOLGI APPARATUS♚♚⤵
_______________

Golgi apparatus is an organalle present in Eukaryotik bodies or cells .It is also known as golgi complex or golgi bodies It packages and sorts proteins and other molecules before they are sent to their final destination. It was identified by an Italian physician named Camillo Golgi.

It can be found in the cytoplasm of all cells whether it is an animal cell or plant cell .Golgi is composed of cisternae that are membrane-bound structures stacked together .

FUNCTION♚♚⤵
_________

↪It produces vacoules or secretory viscles which contain cellular secretion like enzymes.

↪It also helps in the synthesis of cell wall ,plasma membrane and lysosomes.

↪It also involved in the transport of lipids .

↪Golgi apparatus is sometimes compared to a post office inside the cell since one major function is to modify, sort, and package proteins to be secreted.

Answer:

  • The membrane-bound organelle known as the Golgi apparatus, also known as the Golgi complex or Golgi body, is present in eukaryotic cells (cells with clearly defined nuclei), and it is composed of a series of flattened stacked pouches known as cisternae. It is situated close to the cell nucleus and the endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm.
  • Functions:
  1. The primary job of the Golgi apparatus is to process the proteins made in the endoplasmic reticulum. Protein is also transported to various cell components by the golgi apparatus.
  2. Modification of cargo proteins is carried out by the Golgi enzymes found in the membranous discs of cisternae. Enzymes in cisternae modify a variety of chemicals with the aid of reactions like phosphorylation and glycosylation.
  3. The Golgi body plays a crucial role in sulfation. Sulfotransferases are used to sulphate compounds that are moving through the lumen of the Golgi body.
  4. The Golgi body is where carbohydrates are made. Production of polysaccharides and glycosaminoglycans occurs during the carbohydrate synthesis process (GAGs).
