Hiuen-Tsang was a Chinese pilgrim who visited India during the reign of Harshavardhana.Apart from other observations ,he observed the condition of education in India.According to him the system of education progressed in stages from, primary to university. He identified five branches of knowledge at the Nalanda University, where he too studied law and attained a degree. These five branches were grammar , science, arts, logic and philosophy. He also wrote a book called the 'Si-Yu-Ki',which is a record of the events of western kindgom I.e. India
