Salvador Allende was the President of Chile. Chile is a country located in South America. He was the founder and the leader of the Socialist party of Chile. He was elected as the President of Chile in 1970. He initiated several reforms measures to improve the condition of poor section of society and workers in the country. Some of the reforms included improvement of school’s education system, providing free milk to children and distribution of land among the landless labourers. His reform measures were opposed by the rich and the landlords. Even the Church and some other political parties opposed his reform measures. He was killed in a military coup in 1973 led by an army General Augusto Pinochet.
