Its total length is about 2900 km in India.

The Brahmaputra river basin covers the large parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and West Bengal.The basin and its catchment area receive heavy rainfall and the Brahmaputra has the highest discharge of all the rivers of India. The whole basin has 12 water quality monitoring stations.
