Rice is also grown through irrigation in those areas that receive comparatively less rainfall. Rice is the staple food of eastern and southern parts of India.

Wheat - Wheat is grown from seeds. After ploughing the paddocks to break up the soil, the farmer uses a tractor to pull a machine called a drill that plants the seeds into long ditches. Fertiliser, (food for plants) can be added by the machine to make the wheat plants grow strong.

Cotton - cotton since Independence. About half of the total cotton produced in India is a long staple. It is largely grown in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

Tea - Tea is a tropical shrub and is cultivated mostly as a plantation crop. In its natural state, the tree may grow to a height of 9 to 12 meters, but it is regularly pruned to form a bush of 1.2 to 1.5 meters high. Tea is cultivated in a wide range of physical and climatic conditions.

COTTON: Cotton is one of the most important fibre and cash crop of India as well as of entire world. It plays a dominant role in the industrial and agricultural economy of the country. Cotton is a water thirsty crop and around 6% of the water for irrigation in is used for its cultivation. In India, it is grown on a large scale in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Gujarat is the largest producer of cotton followed by Maharashtra and Punjab. It is vital kharif crop of Punjab.

TEA:  Tea is one of the maximum good sized beverage plants which can be brought by the British residents in India.This beverage bland is grown well in subtropical and tropical climates. The timber of tea requires moist frost-loose and heat weather. The beverage crop is extremely cultivated in Darjeeling and Assam located in India.
