The tropic of cancer is also known as northern tropic is currently north of equator. It is most northerly circle of latitude on earth at which sun can be directly overhead. This occurs on the June solstice when northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun to its maximum extend. It's southern hemisphere counterpart is tropic of Capricorn.
