He also done MA in Bengali from the the University of Kolkata.His film carrier was beginning by learned acting under noted actor-director of Bengali theatre of Aahendra Chaudhary.He also started as an announcer in all India radio-debut film.His film acting start from the cinema of 'Apur sansar' which was directed by Satyajit Roy. Soumitra Chatterjee called him "Manik da" and they work together in many films.
