During the recent winter vacation, there was a fire just beyond the northern boundary of our residential complex. There used to be a small paint factory, which was completely gutted by the fire. It was an ordinary Saturday morning, when we suddenly saw smoke bellowing out from the northern corner of our colony. Initially, most of us thought there was a fire in the complex itself, but after a while we realised what had happened. After a while, we saw tall flames leaping into the air, aided by a gentle northerly winter breeze. The wiser men in the colony asked us to remove the vehicles that were parked in the parking lot to the safer location of a football field nearby. Then they called the fire brigade and informed the police. Soon, ten fire engines were pressed into service and eventually controlled the fire after an hour-long struggle. Thankfully, our swimming pool was a huge source for the fire brigade's water requirement. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but most of the local people feel it was due to an electrical short-circuit.
