My Family Traditions and Customs
Ours is a huge joint family. We have an entire colony named after us. Our house is an extended manor. Tradition and Customs play a vital role in our family.
To begin with once a child is born the naming ceremony is very important. This is followed by the rice taking ceremony. Since we are Brahmins, the thread bearing ceremony is very important.
It is customary that we have to touch the feet of our elders before going out. It is mandatory that girls have to have long hair and it cannot be left untied. Western dresses as casual wear are strictly not allowed.
The traditional Durga Puja is held with austerity and devotion. It is a family tradition which is more than a century long. Every family member from every part of the world has to attend it.
Everyone has to attend the rites and rituals of the Puja. It is a custom in our house to eat out of banana leaves. We do not wear shoes or slippers inside the house. Our house is a living testimony to the culture and customs of an Indian household.
