Charles Babbage, an Englishman, is known as the Father of Computer. He invented the machine that could take me pieces of information and sort it in the form of tables. This first machine was called ‘Difference Engine’. By 1970, researches promised to add new dimensions to the capabilities of computers. From a humble beginning a decade ago, the Indian Computer Industry had gone a long way. The computers have vided applications which can e broadly divided.
(i) Scientific Applications – especially for engineering sciences, oceanography, and geology.
(ii) Basic Applications – used by business and government houses. This helps in the calculation of wages, leave records, tax code, and funds, etc. Sales accounting, sales analysis, and stock control can be done with great accuracy.
Production planning can be assisted by computers. In banking, traffic control and space technology, it has shown remarkable progress. The network of telephones and exchanges can be linked through the use of computers. For the students, it helps in their learning process, in reality, computer education has become an essential item for us as we need food for our bodies.
