Being in the modern world almost everyone one of have come in touch with the virtual world in one way or the other, and a source that helps us get in contact with this so called 'virtual world' are computers. Computers and programming are kind of co-related .A programming language is a set of grammatical rules or guidelines for a compiler to follow. A compiler is a program that converts a programming language into what is called the object code, which is usually binary. Object code is code that the computer or program can understand. Basically, programming languages are for us to be able to create programs and control a computer in a simpler way instead of using what the computer understands, object code.

A computer is a device which can be instructed to carry out logical operations automatically. It has the ability to follow generalized sets of operations known as programs. This enables it to perform a wide range of tasks. A modern computer consists of a processing element or CPU and some form of memory. Arithmetic and logical operations are carried out by the processing element. Earlier a computer was programmed in binary so the set of instructions was only a series of 0 and 1. The first high-level computer language to communicate instructions to a computer was written in the 1950s. Plankalkul was a computer language developed by the Germans. Short Code was created by John Mauchly was one of the first languages developed for an electronic computer. Autocode was developed by Alick Glennie at the University of Manchester. Its second iteration was developed by R.A. Brooker and was known as Mark 1 Autocode. LISP created by John McCarthy and COBOL developed by the Short Range Committee are still in use.
