‹ My Dream Destination ›

Amongst the Alps, Switzerland is a dream destination for an unforgettable journey. The alpine pastures dotted with cottages and chalets, against a backdrop of towering snow-capped mountains, the placid turquoise waters of the lakes, and the impeccably run transit system - from trains to boats and cable cars to cogwheel railways - attract millions of visitors each year. Whether it is the magnificent natural attractions, summer and winter outdoor activities, amazing chocolate or luxury watches that appeals to you, Switzerland offers a dream vacation...

Zurich

This largest and most vibrant city has long been known as a transportation hub, financial centre and arts and culture capital where the methodical Swiss way of life meets hip activities and summer Street Parades. For history and culture enthusiasts, get to know Zurich, and Switzerland, at the Swiss National Museum, an outstanding example of 19th Century building style, and an architectural monument of national importance. Exhibits take visitors on a journey through the country’s history, from its prehistoric beginnings, through the Middle Ages and into the 20th Century. Zurich is also home to Europe’s largest church clock at St.Peterkirche and Marc Chagall’s famous stained glass windows at Fraumunster Church, both located by the Limmat River. On the opposite side of the river are situated a number of culturally important sites. For example, the 10th Century Wasserkirche, or “Water Church”, Grossmunster, the Romanesque style church with remarkable twin towers, and the Rathaus, Zurich’s town hall built with the perfect combination of Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo architecture. Zurich is also a shoppers’ paradise. The 1.4-kilometer Bahnhofstrasse is lined with luxury, brand-name shops, and if culinary delights are what you are looking for, explore the alleyways in Niederdorf, part of Zurich’s old town, which has been turned into a nightlife district.

Getting There: Explore Zurich with THAI flights operating between Bangkok and Zurich.

Lucerne

Legend has it that an angel with a light showed Lucerne’s first settlers where to build a Chapel and this is how Lucerne got its name ‘The City of Lights’. Lucerne has everything ‘Swiss’ -picturesque mountains, alpine villages, tranquil lakes, meadows full of Edelweiss, and luxury watch stores – and there are plenty of enjoyable activities. Take a boat trip on the 38 km long Lake Lucerne and get off at Weggis or Vitznau for a trip up to Mt. Rigi (free for Swiss pass holders), or opt for a cable car trip up to 2,070-metre Mt. Pilatus and come back down by cog-railroad. If that is not enough, take a 43-minute train to Engelberg and get on Titlis Rotair, the world’s first revolving cable car, up to Mt.Titlis for all kinds of different activities, from tobogganing and cross-country skiing to scootering and mountain biking. Or simply stroll in the old town, walk across the Chapel Bridge, a covered wooden bridge that is Lucerne’s iconic attraction, and gaze at the Lion Monument, one of the town’s best-known sights. You will surely want to discover even more of the city of lights.

Getting there: take a 50-minute train from Zurich Main Station.
