Chimpanzees are closely related to humans. It is because ever since researchers sequenced the chimp genome in 2005, they have known that humans share about 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees, making them our closest living relatives. Primates have five fingers on their hand and five toes on their feet.

Most species have fingernails instead of claws and they have touch-sensitive pads on each of their digits.  Bat wings consist of flaps of skin stretched between the bones of the fingers and arm. Bird wings consist of feathers extending all along the arm. Birds and bats did not inherit wings from a common ancestor with wings, but they did inherit forelimbs from a common ancestor with forelimbs. They are all vertebrates, animals that have spines.
