The main differences between metallic and ionic solids are -

-Metallic solids are formed by covalent bonds whereas ionic solids are formed by ionic bonds.

-Metallic solids re good conductors of free electrons where as in ionic solids ions are held by strong ionic bonds and hence can not move to conduct electricity.

Metallic solids are conductors of electricity in solid state as well as in molten state.

Ionic solids are insulators in solid state but conductors in molten state and in aqueous solutions.
