Agra, the city of Taj, the city of love. You are bound to fall in love with this ‘city of love’. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz mahal, the Taj Mahal is located in the bank of river Yamuna. The Taj Mahal is built of white marble inlaid with precious and semiprecious stones. The verses of the Holy Quran are inscribed on it. The garden surrounding the Taj has a raised water tank at its centre which reflects the image of Taj.
The main gateway is a monumental structure built primarily of marble which is in itself an attraction. There are two grand red sandstone buildings that are open to the sides of the tomb which appear exactly the same, while one is mosque(the western building), the other was perhaps used as a guesthouse.
