I”ll be splitting this answer into two . The first half would be about farmers of India and the second would be the citizens of India those who are farmers.

With the advancement in technology (which is never ending) the advance agricultural techniques are in picture. But such technologies need basic knowledge about fertilizers, high breed, pesticides, modern tools ,multi crop farming , knowledge about soil , immense knowledge of new machines for agriculture sector to use them . To do 'smart farming’ farmers of India need to be 'smart farmer’ which requires education. *Also to stay safe from any fraud or cheating (farmers have to face traders and merchants everyday for selling and buying purposes) they need to be educated. The era of digitalisation has been started, this will rise day to day ,in such situation farmers have to learn to go digital (because it is the need of an hour and no one can run away from it,everybody have to face it), this would save their time and being smart would make their work to be done on finger tips and also save them from any mishap.

Now coming to second point where a huge %of citizens of India are farmers. Not just farmers but every citizen of the nation should be made educated. But as the focus is on farmers so we will be talking about farmers only. This (education) will lift their living standard, would save them from any frauds, make them self aware and conscious being . Specifically in the case of farmers it is still frequently seen that they are misused and mistreated by others ( sometimes framed in fake cases , ill treated by police, panchayats , cheated by traders and property dealers) ; because they don't know anything about their rights and immunities. With getting educated this ill pratice can be eradicated (farmers can be enough for themselves, they don't have to beg to anybody for help). Plus illiterate people are misused for political purposes(vote banks). Uneducated people are seen to be mindblown by leaders by providing a bottle of liquor, some money, mobile phones or television, bicycle etc and hence eventually buying their votes. This misuse of democracy and farmers can only be stopped when education is ensured to them. With educated brains they can easily exercise their enormous rights given by Constitution to them (and all).

At last i would say to make farmers of India educated is the need of today's era. For smart India we need smart farmers too,and eventually it requires to make them educated. Farmers are the backbone of the nation , in their upliftment the real key to the upliftment of whole nation is hidden.
