Explanation:
The Annual Science Exhibition was held at our School on 14 August, 2013. It is organised every year with a view to encourage and inculcate a scientific temper amongst students. The students showcase their talents in Science, Mathematics, Languages and Social Science. Our honourable Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Naveen Chawla, former Election Commissioner of India.
Distinct venues were allotted for the different subjects for the displays of projects made by the students. As one entered the Reception area itself, one could feel the pulse and the magnitude of the event! The entire school was abuzz with activity.
The Chief Guest was welcomed in tradition by students with a tika and flower petals. He then unfurled the national flag in the company of our Chairman, Mr. Goradia; Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Nayana Goradia; Advisor and former principal, Mrs.Rashi Narula and Principal, Mrs. Tania Joshi. The school choir sang the national anthem.
Mr. Chawla stopped by the lobby area to have a look at the exhibits displayed there. He keenly interacted with students who exuded confidence while explaining to him the various projects and activities that were on display.
Mr. Chawla was presented a potted plant, as per tradition at Our school, where we believe in going green by spreading a symbol of green around! There was an interesting line up of events that were to follow. It is important to remember here that, Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan are celebrated together at our school together with the science exhibition every year. Both girls and boys tie rakhis on each others’ wrists as a mark of our belief in gender equalness. This was warmly appreciated by the Chief Guest in his speech. Simultaneously we also believe that freedom can fully be ours’ only by the advance of science and technology. Hence, the science exhibition on the occasion of Independence Day.
A patriotic song was sung by the senior school choir followed by a moving dance-drama on the theme of female infanticide, performed by the students of class X and XI. Female infanticide is one the most sensitive issues today and often overlooked as the first violence against women. The issue was extremely well presented and the chief guest has recommended that the same be screened on doordarshan as well as at other schools!
Mr. Chawla released the School Science Magazine- ‘Science Musings By An Indianite’. The Indian School Science Magazine, the proud resonance of the Indianites is an exciting journey into the world of science, brought out by the children themselves.
In his address, Mr. Chawla spoke about the importance of voting. He said how children of today could become responsible citizens of tomorrow by exercising their right to vote once they reach the eligible age. He interacted with the students and answered some very important and interesting questions that were put up to him by them. On being asked who he thinks would win the coming elections, he said it was difficult to say! Answering another question about how bureaucracy is affected by politics in our country, he narrated his experiences of the time he was in office.
Mr. Chawla along with other esteemed guests, then proceeded to the exhibition area. He took a keen interest in viewing the exhibits and interacting with the students. The Exhibition opened for parents at 10am. It saw the attendance of a large number of parents who appeared to enjoy and appreciate the projects displayed.
