Cyclone Kyant in Bay of Bengal is reportedly moving closer to the Indian East coast. Navy ships are ready with divers, doctors, inflatable boats & relief material as the cyclone is expected to hit Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in by October 27.
The Odisha government is bracing for the possible landfall of Cyclone Kyant on October 27 by kicking off massive preparations.
IMD forecast that the cyclone may weaken before hitting Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, but the government are not taking any chances and both the states are on alert. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Andhra Pradesh coast.
The cyclone is expected to affect North Eastern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Rain and thunderstorms are likely in West Bengal as well.
The cyclone has caused flooding in parts of Myanmar as of October 26.
The cyclone got its name Kyant in Myanmar, which means Crocodile in Mon language spoken in parts of Myanmar and Thailand.
