Seeking immediate withdrawal of the no detention policy, the All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) led a march to Parliament Street today. AISEC also submitted a memorandum to HRD Minister Smriti Irani. The no detention policy is part of the 2009 Right to Education (RTE) Act. It is part of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation of the RTE in which no student can be detained up to class 8.

The march began at Ramlila Grounds and ended at Parliament Street.

Seeking reintroduction of the pass-fail system for evaluation of school students, Kartick Saha, secretariat member AISEC said no detention policy has adversely affected the quality of education and learning.

Maintenance of secular-scientific-democratic approach in all aspects of education in academic curricula, and course content and a guarantee of genuine right to education for all students at all levels with no discrimination are among the demands listed in the memorandum submitted to the minister.
