Our school celebrated Van Mahotsava on August 24 along with a cultural programme. The students presented two songs, which highlighted the importance of trees. The boys and the girls of class XI presented a dance drama which got thunderous applause from the spectators. Van Mahotsava followed. About 100 saplings of different varieties of trees were planted by the students and the staff along the boundary of the school. Mrs Kiran Bedi, the first woman police officer, graced the occasion as the chief guest. She asked the students to take proper care of the planted saplings

an Mahotsav, a week-long festival of tree plantation is organized every

year in the first week of July across India when millions of trees are planted.

This movement was initiated in the year 1950 by Union Minister for

Agriculture, Dr.K M Munshi.

In an earnest attempt to lend a green touch to the school environment and

sensitize the students about their role in conserving it, Ahlcon International

School celebrated Van Mahotsav week from 3rd July to 7th July 2017 in the

school campus. The celebration was an ideal opportunity to instil the value

of social responsibility in the students towards safeguarding trees and forests. The focus of the celebration

was towards forming a personal connect between the students and trees

through a process of experience, reflection and creation, carried out through

various activities.

Many students of class VI participated in plantation programme wherein

different types of medicinal plants like Neem, Aloe Vera, Basil, Giloy,

Lavender etc were planted by the school Principal and other dignitaries.

Each student of the group spoke about the medicinal values of the particular

plant that was planted. It was an educative and informative session for the students. Some students

participated in poster making competition to promote environmental

awareness. Every student made a poster on the topic ‘GREEN EARTH,

CLEAN EARTH’. Each poster had a unique story to tell and spread the

message that theS green planet they live in must be protected and cared for.

The students of class VII took part in a Quiz competition on Van mahotsav.

The topics covered in the quiz were as follows:

• Information regarding Van Mahotsav

• Amazing world of plants

• General questions related to plants

The students of class VIII participated in Bookmark making activity. They brought old pictures, greeting

cards, used chart papers, etc to make bookmarks. They also brought different items like mirrors, stars, and

stickers etc to decorate the bookmarks. Each bookmark had an eco-friendly message like ‘use paper bags’,

‘save earth’, ‘save water’, ‘do not waste electricity’ etc. Messages on the book marks left everyone to

ponder over and raised awareness about the benefits of plantation.

Van Mahotsav week came up to be a great success. The events helped to bring awareness about the green

cover around us. It also helped in strengthening the bond between plants and humans. Students got to learn
