On the Occasion of ‘World Earth Day’ (on 22nd April) the Department of Social Work & National Service Scheme Unit, Teerthanker Mahaveer University planned to celebrate the Day with some action work. Based on the theme ‘one student one plant’ this was recommended by the UGC. It was aimed to sensitize the issue of environment protection in the young generation. Today it is a grave concern that human had intervened a lot in the nature because of its greed for development and luxury. Due to all this technology, industrialization the nature cycle has got disturbed, recent example of nature ferocity is that of crop failure in India. Barack Obama recently said “the issue of environment is of immense importance, more than my Presidency”. To make this occasion really worthy of action all students of MSW & NSS Unit resolute that each students will bring a plant and plant it in front of College of Engineering. On 22nd April, 136 students were present in their full strength, all were present with a plant. The programme was started by Dr. Alok K. Mishra, Head, Department of Social Work & Program Coordinator NSS by planting a seedling in the COE lawn with other faculty members. Later all the students planted and watered the newly anchored plants in the soil. All the students also taken the pledge to protect and water regularly to nurture the plant in a big tree. The occasion was graced by Dr. Sandeep Verma, Associate Professor, Humanities, College of Engineering. He discusses the immediate need of aforestation to reduce the green house effect of excess CO2 in the environment. Other faculty members who contributed in the occasion were Dr. Rajeev Jha Associate Professor, COE and faculty members of Department of Social Work Namely Dr. Vinod K. Pandey, Mr. Navneet S. Singh (Programme Officer NSS, TMU Unit), Mrs. Taha Fatima Mr. Ashish K. Tiwari and Mr. Vipin Kuamr.
