Article 324 of the Constitution provides for an Election Commission,
which shall consist of a Chief Election Commissioner and such other Election Commissioners as the President may from time to time fix.
The functions of the Commission include preparation of electoral rolls,
superintendence, direction and control of elections to Parliament and State Legislatures,
recognition of political parties and allotment of symbols to them, and conducting elections to offices of the President and the Vice- President.
